Abby & Matt’s Garden Picnic Wedding
Abby & Matt had a lovely picnic wedding at Kildonan Park last spring. We had just over a month to plan the wedding but these two knew what they wanted (with a little direction and refinement from us).
The couple picked the park because of its beautiful gardens and they wanted a simple picnic-style reception. You know we LOVE an outdoor wedding, and flowers, and gardens, and puppies, and picnics so you know this was 100% a thrilled and joy to plan. We did a couple of site visits and after many emails and calls back and forth with the park we worked out all the details to have it there. Kildonan Park has some lovely spots and it was a total treat to finally do a wedding there.
Other than it being a garden picnic wedding the only other “theme” was blue. Abby LOVES blue. We brought it in in as many ways as we could and love that she chose to wear a vintage blue dress. It suited her so exceptionally well and her flowers (thank you Beyond Flowers!) were the perfect cherry on top that tied the look together.
One thing was an absolute from the beginning; Penny their beloved baby (dog) needed to be apart of as much of the day as possible. From the ceremony, photos, to having a cosy spot at the reception she was happily (and bark-ily, I know Dog Mom joke) a part of it all.
Hello! Shout out to Grandma and her amazing dress and looking hella fine! Did you catch the rhinestone bows on her flats? Perfection.
Abby & Matt wanted an intimate wedding and invited only their nearest and dearest. If you haven’t read our blog posts about intimate weddings (you should 🙂 then know that we think intimate weddings are lovely and have such an underrated places in the wedding world. Not everyone wants a big party and all that attention (don’t get me wrong, I love a big bash at times) and your wedding should be a reflection of you, support you in the way you need (too much people-ing can really suck for some), and be what YOU want it to be. Of course, all while taking care of and loving on your guests too (it is an event you’re hosting, after all).
The day started off a little chilly and windy but that didn’t stop us (other then the centrepieces that the wind was just not having; they became a flatlay design instead, win-win for all). Guests cozied up for a sweet ceremony performed by a friend and then moved over to the picnic shelter for a boxed deli lunch and the best GF vegan cakes (thank you Cocoa Bean!).
One of three party favours: umbrellas with hand written cards for each guests (thank you Blake Creative Co).
We had tasty mocktails and sodas from Nomad Box Bar which was the perfect touch with their bike bar.
Once lunch was underway we had a few heart felt speeches, laughter, cake cutting (and eating), and charming words from the couple. A short and sweet – but personal and perfectly them – wedding for Abby & Matt. It was a magical day.
