Bohemian Styled Shoot

When Mel from Sugar & Soul calls you up and tells you she has an idea for a bohemian styled shoot you listen. Mel is one of my all time favs to get to work with and although our schedule was 100% full already we made room to be a part of this shoot (we found an extra 5% laying around).

It was tricky trying to work with the weather and we had to alter our original lakeside plans but I couldn’t be more happy with how this shoot came together.

With only 2 weeks to plan and 4 other shoots in the works we wanted to make sure that this shoot wasn’t like the others we were working on and also make sure we gave it enough of the attention to detail it deserved.

If you haven’t notice already Amanda Douglas Events is all about the details. My staff and I love to get to play around with styling unique elements and this shoot was no different. Being the hugest fan (and collector) rocks and gems this was a total play ground!

We started with the floral inspiration from Brit over at Fache Floral Designs and build the table design from there.

“I wanted to capture the rich tones of a moody, bohemian vibe, while still maintaining the light, airy qualities that summertime demands.

So for the base of the bouquet, I created a lush layering of draping greenery and other textures – apricot brunia berries, coral sweet peas, blush astilbe – to give the ambiance of light, bright, and elegant.

Then went back in to add the focal blooms as our darker, anchoring tones; using burgundy eggplant ranunculus, and flecks of filler items with the same colour – swamp lilies, smokebush – scattered through the bouquet to bring balance to the overall palette.”
