How to Create your Wedding Design
We started talking about wedding design in our last post and today we’re chatting about how to create your wedding design.
You might still be feeling a bit overwhelmed with the whole thought of wedding design but don’t worry. We’ve broken it down into small pieces to help you get your head around creating your wedding design.
Get organized
We suggest setting up a few pin boards for the different colours you love. Don’t just throw everything into one massive “wedding” pin board. Break it down so you can really look through things property as you plan.
You might be the type of person that is having a bit of a hard time picking between colours. You and 90% of the other brides out there! Start with organization. I know, not fun or sexy, but it will help you as you go.
Seek Inspiration
Start checking things out online, doing some searching for the colours you love, and taking in inspiration anywhere you find it. Go through Instagram feeds, Pinterest board, wedding blogs. Start collecting inspiration to work with.
Don’t commit. Yet.
You’re in the R&D stage. Just keep collecting and thinking through what you like. Don’t commit to anything just yet. Sure, hire your venue, photographer, Wedding Planner, but don’t commit to colours or a theme just yet. Just give yourself some time to really discover what you love.
Put your design into words
This might just be a few key words to start like “elegant, romantic, vibrant” or “Soft, summery, airy”. Then try putting the mood/vibe of your wedding into a description. Think something like “The night will be filled with laughter, the best wine, candle light, personal touches, and lots of love”. You don’t need to write a whole story about your day but define it a little. This will give you something to go back to if you start to get a bit off course.
Focus in and decide
Now it’s time to commit. This might even come with a pro and con list. This is where the help of your Wedding Planner (if design is included in your package) will be a big help. They’ll help you bring all your ideas into one place (and likely create inspiration boards for you too). They help you keep the design and colours you love and not let you veer off (often the voice of reason when you get the temptation to change everything because you “saw something amazing on Pinterest!!”).
Take the time to review everything you’ve collected and see what stands out to you. You might take a week or so to really sit on your choice. Consider setting your colour palette as your home screen on your phone/computer so when it pops up you can gauge your instinctual reaction.
Find the right vendors
Now that you have your direction it’s time to actually put together your wedding design with the right vendors.
Start with florist, linen, and lighting. Then move your way down to stationery, cake and desserts, and attire.
This is now the (extra) fun part. Start interviewing your vendors and hire away. Be sure to share with them your colours and inspiration.
Don’t let Pinterest lead you stray
Now that you’re really moving forward with your wedding design don’t let Pinterest or the constant onslaught of beautiful things on Instagram lead you astray.
You picked something you really love. There will always be other pretty things out there but what you picked is for you and trust us, you’ll love it.
