Fall Wedding at Starlit Point – Chim & Nathan
We planned with Chim & Nathan for their fall wedding at Starlit Point for just over a year. As we normally do we started with the budget and the wishes and dreams they had for their wedding day. It’s usually the case that couples have larger expectations than their budget allows. There’s nothing wrong with that, and there never will be, but of course some change or another needs to happen. If a couple is willing to be realistic and pick the pieces that matter the most to them (or up their budget if they want to/there are the means to) then we’re always headed in the right direction.
With Chim & Nathan it was so beautiful to watch them think through what really mattered and adjust their wedding day plan, design, and guest list accordingly. They are a wonderful example of not excepting the norm of what a wedding “should be” but found a blend of personality, a (colourful and) balanced wedding design, and a great time for their guests.
If you read wedding blogs at all, you’ll know that one of the biggest “budget savers” is reducing your guest count. But – as a couple – you’ll also know this is one of the hardest changes to make. How do you reduce a 150 guest list to 50 guests? But also, what is the wedding YOU really want to have? We always encourage our couples to take a few steps back and really look at the wedding they really want.
These folks were the best matching not matching wedding party. I mean, just look at them. Snaps.
Chim trusted us with some fun bright florals suggestions to bring a bit more balance in the floral design. She already had the best style and vision for her day and it was such a treat to be trusted with a few additions and tweaks with Academy Florist along the way (including a day-before chat while the bouquet was being constructed. We’re not always that involved but it was so lovely being able to say “I think it needs just a little more of this, and a little less of that. I think she’ll really love it that way!”).
If most of your friends are musically or artistically inclined getting them involved in personal ways is a must. Listening to these two play during the signing, with added songs from the birds, the sun hitting us all, and the gentle fall breeze. I’m not lying, these are magical moments.
This was a sweet moment for me – Amanda – getting to do the signing with the couple (so all their friend needed to do was perform the intimate ceremony).
We designed and settled on a base of greenery along the head table and moved over the ceremony flowers and used them again in the middle to frame the table. Simple but beautiful.
We hear a lot of stories and many speeches but the looks on Chim & Nathan’s friends’ and familys’ faces during it all. The love and joy for them was tangible in the room. The feeling was so rich and full. Those are the wedding day moments (and feelings) we always will remember.
The amount of candles to have on the tables was a great debate and meny a phone calls/texts from Nathan trying to source cylinder vases from around the city (cheers Nathan, well done!).
I’m glad they took my suggestions because this (above) turns into this (below) as the night went on. Day time whimsy and romantic turns into cocktails-by-candlelit-moody-romance for the rest of the night.
I always say – and I will keep saying it forever – lighting changes the mood. Always. Always. Always. Lean into a lighting design, even if it’s candles only creating the mood.
A little sneak out for twilight photos in the country means THIS. Oh yes, always the right choice. If you needed one more example to convince you it’s a good idea let it be this.
