Lucy & Tyler and their families were so much fun to work with and we were thrilled to get to take on their New Years Eve wedding! Of course we love a good party and were so excited and inspired with all of their ideas and how they brought it together in such a unique way!

From the bride all about her New Years Eve Wedding:

The main priority for the wedding was make it as enjoyable for the guests as possible, without breaking our budget. We ended up spending a total of $16,000 on the wedding which was a little more than we planned for, but worth every penny! In order to stay on track with our budget we prioritized where to spend money, and splurged towards things that would add to the guest’s experience: full service catering, open bar, a great band, and an awesome coordinator who would make sure things ran smoothly.

For decor, we wanted to focus on creating an organic, intimate atmosphere for our guests. We did this by focusing on warm lighting (lots of candles, string lights along the tables), wood accents (lit trees, driftwood logs) and lowering the high ceilings with bistro lights and draped fabric. We used long tables and low centrepieces to encourage that intimacy and conversation.  Colours were mostly whites and browns, with soft touches of colour; we did not follow a strict colour theme because it was too limiting. The “minimal” theme for our wedding was a win-win because not only does it represent our style, but it allowed us to save a LOT of money on things like flowers and other decor. One important thing we decided early on was not to have an overly trendy or “copycat” wedding. In the early stages of planning, I spent so much time on Pinterest but began to see the same things over, and over again. We wanted to make sure each part of our wedding was completely unique and original, so although Pinterest is a great resource, in the end we decided to create our own ideas based on our unique vision. In the end, we had something absolutely perfect for us, and everything meant more as it was a representation of all the hard work and creativity of everyone involved.

Some sweet words from Lucy:

“I cannot imagine our day without Amanda Douglas Events, and I don’t want to! Planning weddings are so much more stressful than you ever admit to realize…trust me, I started off as one of those “cool brides” who refused to get crazy. But things just get crazy. And in those times, Amanda will be there to calm you down with all the right answers, finish all those tasks you completely forgot about on the day of, get you a glass of wine, and make sure you can actually arrive at your wedding, and forget about EVERYTHING. My wedding party and I were able to get there and actually relax, and enjoy the day. No one came up to us with questions or problems, and things got resolved in the background without us even knowing about it. People may tell themselves a wedding coordinator is an unnecessary luxury but it turned out to truly be one of the best decisions we made. All I can say is THANK YOU!”
