We are very excited about Pantone’s new colour of the year: Marsala!
If you are looking for some marsala inspiration for your upcoming wedding then look no further! We have creating both light and dark inspiration boards using Marsala to help spark your creative juices.
So for starters, what is Marsala?
Marsala is a warm tone with some unique flare. Named from the decadent wine, Pantone’s 2015 Colour of the Year is very rich and robust with an earthy feel.
“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while it’s grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” – Source
“This earthy red has wine and a very warm brown underneath, which gives the feeling of groundedness, strength, and confidence,” says Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute. “It has a richness that lends sophistication. When you wear it’s it is a self-fulfilling prophecy—you’ll find you get positive reactions form others and it builds up your confidence.” Eisman explains that we’ve seen glimpses of marsala in the late ‘60s into the ‘70s and a touch in the ‘80s, but it’s a very modern hue that totally suits the times. – Source
What’s great about this new colour is that it has been very popular with both the ladies and the gents! What more could you ask for?
It’s also very unique and can be paired with many other out of the ordinary colours. This will help avoid ‘cookie cutter’ colour schemes. Marsala goes great with different shades of mauves, pinks, teals, greens, blues and ever orange! The wonderful thing about Marsala is how it manages to be flattering on many different skin tones, making it a very versatile colour. This is great if you were planning to use it in any of your wedding attire.
If you are thinking of going with a dark theme, then how about using Marsala with deep earthy and rich shades of greens, blues or even purples. Gold can be a lovely accent with these colours as well.
If you were leaning towards a lighter theme using Marsala then perhaps you would consider going with different shades of light mauves and or lighter pinks.
Mint greens and light greys can easily fit into this category as well and either would nicely compliment a light pink theme with Marsala.
Marsala can be used on things you would like to highlight and emphasize as it will help them stand out and get noticed. Marsala looks great in floral arrangements, table décor, wedding party attire, or even your wedding dress! You can use Marsala as detail on your dress, your shoes or even your makeup perhaps. Or if you’re going for a bold look, just go for a fully coloured Marsala dress! Check out our Inspiration boards in this post for some examples.
If subtle is more your thing you can use Marsala in things such as: Bridesmaid dress details, the grooms or groomsmen’s ties or vests, your flowers, centrepieces, jewellery, etc.
If you are working with a Planner they can definitely be helpful in this area, so feel free to ask for suggestions on different ways and ideas to use Marsala throughout your wedding theme.
