Feed your vendors

You need to feed your vendors. Your photographers, videographers, Wedding Planners, and DJ all should have a meal and seat at the reception (some venues have what’s called a Vendor Meal – something more cost effective them your guest’s options). You can sit them all together at one table (the DJ will sit/eat at their station). Do not put them in a back room  – it makes it difficult for them to do their job and catch all the important moments.

What about your bouquet?

Have a plan for your bouquet after the wedding. Whether you enjoy it on the dinning room table, dry it, or preserve it be sure to have a plan and relay that on if you’re leaving the next day for your honeymoon.

Take care of your feet

“You may want to really “tough it out” with those heels but remember to have a pair of comfortable shoes for the reception. You want the option to change them when dancing starts” – Savannah Wedding Dreams

Don’t let a cold near you = have a health routine

If you’ve got little ones and you want them to be a part of the wedding have a “health route” for the whole family to avoid anyone getting sick before the big day. Also, plan your ceremony time for after their usual nap time (if possible).

Your Marriage License

Be sure to get your marriage license. You – as a couple – are the only ones that can purchase this. You have to buy it a minimum of 48 hours before your wedding.

Pay attention to your contracts

“Read your contracts thoroughly. Make sure they all have a Force Majuere clause, and make sure you understand them. We all hope the worst won’t happen, but if it does, make sure your protected” – Sarah French Events

Consider Event Insurance

Getting event insurance is not a large fee. It can be as low as $500 for up to five wedding related events. And trust us; it’s worth the investment.

Check the Calendar

“If you’re getting married – or doing any part of your day – in a urban location make sure you check your date for any special events, marathons, or marches. You’ll need to add in extra time to accommodate the delays caused by this”

Avoid Water Sprinklers!

Don’t hang anything from a sprinkler (in a hotel room or apartment for example). You will likely set it off (they are very sensitive) and cause A LOT of damage.

Come to terms with the weather

If you’re doing anything outside you have a 50/50 chance of good weather. As much as you want to believe it’s all going to “work out” you MUST have a rain plan.

Take care of the men

If you’re having a summer wedding order a second set of suits for the groomsmen for at the reception. Work with your Wedding Planner to schedule in a “wardrobe change” for right before the Grand Entrance to keep the men fresh.

Liquor License timing

“You have to get your liquor license well in advance. This isn’t something you can get the day of, or even the day before the wedding. Start the process at least 1-2 months before the wedding”

Your reception costs (food & liquor) usually ends up being around 50% of your total wedding budget.

Be mindful of standing straight at the ceremony. You’d be surprised how easy it is to stand with one leg out, or bent. Trust us – you won’t be happy when you see your photos.

Speeches?

“Never assume anything. You’re positive your parents won’t want to make a speech? Double check. You don’t want to miss out on this special moment and letting them have the honour or doing a speech” – Sarah French Events

An Emergancy Kit = your best friend

“An emergency kit is a must – so many things happen on the wedding day. Top 10 items to include is: lighter (for candles or hems that may start to fray) , tissues, lipstick, cash, Tide-to-go pen, deodorant & lotion (it’s a long day and you may need to touch up), breath mints, sewing kit (needle, thread & scissors), super glue – Experience Love Events (Tip: If you’ve hired a Wedding Planner they will have a large and fully stocked emergency kit)

Maps are a must!

“If you’re having a country or lake wedding that is a little harder to find (or isn’t at all google-able) take the time to do up a map and step-by-step directions for your vendor team and your guests. It’s amazing how helpful something so simple can be and on the flip side how delayed the whole day can be by lost vendors and guests” – Simply Organized Weddings

RSVP date trick

“Put your RSVP date one to two weeks before you actually need the numbers–this allows you time to track down the non-responders” – Sarah French Events

You may not eat your whole meal, and even if you do you’ll still be hungry when you get to your final destination for the night. Then you won’t have to worry about finding good food at 1am” – Eventistry
