Suzanne & Doug’s Intimate Family Wedding
Suzanne & Doug’s Intimate Family Wedding was a wedding a little more personal for me because it’s my father-in-law and his new lady’s!
I was honoured to get to be a part of it and help them plan and coordinate the day.
Getting remarried at any age can be a challenge, getting remarried when you’re a little bit older has its own set of unique details, family dynamics, and things to consider. Having lived so much life; there are so many more people you could potentially share the day with. Not to mention your kids!
Suzanne and Doug decided to have an intimate family wedding with the few close friends in the mix as well.
Ashgrove Acres was the natural choice considering that Doug was their general contractor on the build and that their family too.
They opted for simple colours of white, green and, some rustic accents.
The weather was a bit too chilly to host the ceremony outside – as planned – so we made some last-minute adjustments and had the immediate family sit in some rows facing the stage. The remainder of the guest sat at their assigned tables to make an easy transition into cocktail hour and then reception.
A little family blessing during the ceremony – a must in this family.
Bribing children at weddings is practically a fine arts skill for me at this point but, it was particularly cute getting to do a little more corralling with these little cuties (Suzanne – and now Doug’s – grandchildren).
I thought I would include a couple of personal photos; my in-laws (the big tall one on the right, that’s Marshall, my man).
Peter, Brother-in-Law of the Bride, did a fantastic job as MC.
Grandpa Ike sharing a few words. Being a Pastor, we’ve come to expect all the heartfelt and generous thoughts from him.
Having so many memories and so many people to share them with Suzanne and Doug opted to have an open mic where people came and shared their thoughts and well wishes.
Prop Tip: Open mics aren’t always the best idea but with a crowd like this it was the perfect one; a beautiful addition to the reception.
Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without dancing and lots of laughter. It was a beautiful celebration and a memorable night.
Behind the newlyweds went on their way Ashley (my sister-in-law) and I put on some getaway “Just Married” gear.
