We’re excited to share with you another vendor spotlight post and this time on Krysten Cathleen Photography. Krysten is sweet as pie and we’re excited to be working together on our upcoming Italian Garden Party Giveaway. Here’s our little interview with her!
Tell us a little bit about you!
To start, I’m a dreamer. I know that might sound cliche, but even as I sit here typing this, drinking my daily dose of caffeine, I’m dreaming of the possibilities for my day, my week, my year. My dreams, and the dreams of others, are what motivate and inspire me. Dreaming is what brought me to start my business as a photographer.
When I was growing up, my aspirations, my dreams, for my career were twofold. First, I wanted a job where I would be able to interact and get to know people on a personal level. I yearned to help individuals explore their own dreams. Second, I wanted my career to function as an outlet for the creativity I continually felt building up inside me. At the time when these dreams were just beginning to form, I was convinced that these were two competing ideas, that I had to choose one focus over the other. Under this belief, I entered University to study social sciences with the intention of working within the social sector. I completed University in 2012 and began working with children and family.
During this time, in hopes of fulfilling my creative self, I purchased a camera and began my journey as a hobbyist photographer. In short, I loved it. After working in the social sector for a year and a half, I realized that I was still dreaming about a career I did not have. I still wanted to blend my aspirations of working closely with people while being in a creative field. Then I found wedding photography.
Without drawing this response out too much, it’ll be suffice to say that wedding photography has allowed me get to know people on a deeper, personal level, while also enabling me to explore creatively. I truly value the individuals that I work with as a photographer – everyone is so different, so uniquely interesting and lovely. Nothing brings out these traits quite like a wedding day, and I’m so happy to be able display these personalities through the images I take.
What do you love the most about your job?
The reception parties. Seriously. I absolutely love watching the celebration that comes after two individuals say “I do”. All the beautifully unique personality traits of a person really shine during those after parties and it’s such a joy to watch and to capture.
On another level, I’m an organizer by nature, and I enjoy the wonderfully mundane parts of a career as photographer. Time to organize my calendar? Count me in.
What of yourself do you bring into your work that sets you apart?
One of the things that I appreciate most about photography, is that I feel like I am able to bring many of my strongest qualities into my role as a photographer. My extroverted tendencies and passion for people means people are at the center of my business. My passion for creativity has allowed me to develop and explore my own style as a photographer. My love of organization means that I can stay on task and get things done. Overall, I feel that my business suits me as a person, and that I am able display my personal strengths in my business.
