Vendor Spotlight: Lily Stone Gardens
We’re been fortunate enough to work with Kelly of Lily Stone Gardens a few times now and are so excited for up coming photos shoots and weddings we have together. Not only is she a great floral designer she also runs her own local flower farm. Yes, flowers grown for wedding and events right here in Manitoba. How great is that?
Here’s our little Vendor Spotlight interview with Kelly.
What’s the best professional lesson you ever learned?
Set realistic goals for yourself and your business. For me… I was in the middle of having my children when I started my business and trying to find a balance between work and family time was really hard. I am now trying to set goals based on how busy “I want to be” versus “Let’s make ourselves too busy and see how I can manage it all”!
What was the last thing that gave you warm fuzzies?
Watching my boys love their dog and have him love them back so unconditionally. They are constantly hugging him, laying on top of him, curled up beside him… I always had pets when I was growing up and it is such a special love.
Who inspires you?
My Mom. Everyone probably says their Mom. But it truly is my Mom. She is the strongest woman I know.
Describe your perfect day as a Floral Designer.
A perfect work day, is having the time in the morning to enjoy my coffee, spending the first half (cooler half) of the day out in the garden cutting flowers and listening to the birds sing, catching up on emails or meeting a bride for a consult in the afternoon, and ha ha ending the work day before 8pm!
Describe your perfect day off.
My perfect day off…hmm. Would start with a slow lazy morning, including two cups of coffee, a gardening magazine and quality time with my kids. Probably ending the day off with a bonfire, or a dinner out with my family.
Besides friends and family, what are three things you can’t live without?
Flowers (obviously), coffee, and more coffee.
What are you watching, reading and listening to right now?
Hmmm I just finished watching The Ranch on Netflix. Great show!
It’s really sad but the only thing I read these days are seed and bulb catalogs and cut flower growing guides! Currently listening to…. hmm The Wheels on the Bus??? Just kidding.
In Winnipeg, where do you like to eat, get coffee, shop?
I really am not very up to speed on coffee shops, and restaurants these days. I am excited if I get a Tim’s once in awhile when we are doing a grocery run! We did however have a very much long overdue date night recently and finally had the chance to try Rudy’s downtown. It was fantastic!
Looking back, what would you tell your 16 year old self?
To love yourself… exactly as you are.
What is your favourite getaway location? Why?
My favourite weekend getaway is simply to go home to my parents farm where I grew up. It is my kids absolute favourite place to be. I shut off my work world when I’m there, I am able to nap, and I never have to make dinner!
