Tedi & Evan are darling. I know them first from being their Day of Coordinator. Now I’m lucky enough to see them often because we get to work together!
They have mad skill at their craft and we wanted to make sure you knew of them – The Picture and the Poet.
Here’s our little interview with them. You’re welcome.
Vendor Spotlight: The Picture & The Poet
Describe yourself in 3 words…
Romantic, Adventurous, Fun-as-fuck.
What’s the best professional lesson you ever learned?
Don’t be precious. It’s something that I’ve learned to hold in balance. Yes, we are creative artists, but if we’re too precious with our work we’ll never actually finish anything. When I was on my own it took me over six months to finish a wedding video because I spent half the time worrying about my creativity. But since Tedi took over editing, she’s been kicking ass bringing fresh creativity to every video, but working hard to get it out within weeks of the wedding.
What was the last thing that gave you warm fuzzies?
Besides every second ad during the Olympics coverage? We’re editing one of our couple’s wedding video that includes audio of them reading “Love You Forever” to their three-year-old son. When their son giggles and reads out loud “my baby you’ll be”, it gives me all the feels.
Who inspires you?
We look up to the wedding videographer Monika Frias from Spain. One day we hope to fly her out to wherever we are so that she can capture our story. Her stories are so raw yet magical with a personal, natural narrative. And her colouring is to die for!
Describe your perfect day as a wedding photographer and videographer.
The perfect day includes the perfect couple. When we work with the right people who are adventurous, vulnerable and love beautiful things, nothing can get in the way. Sure, rain and cold can make our jobs a little more difficult, but when people are in love and with friends, we don’t need anything else.
Describe your perfect day off.
Well now that it’s winter, a perfect day off would start with a pour-over coffee and cuddles on the couch watching HGTV’s Leave It To Bryan, followed by an afternoon swim, a round of mini-golf at the Golf Dome, and wings at home with the Jets game on. If there’s no hockey, I’ll challenge my mom to an intense game of ping-pong. Lately, I’ve been starting to win 🙂
Besides friends and family, what are three things you can’t live without?
Credit cards, cameras, and Club Soda.
What are you watching, reading and listening to right now?
Always watching The Office. I’m off and on reading Steve Jobs biography. He was such a fascinating human. And we listen to Post Malone on repeat.
In Winnipeg, where do you like to eat, get coffee, shop?
Finding food is the bane of our existence, but on special occasions, I treat Tedi to Pizzeria Gusto. Outside of downtown Winnipeg, there isn’t really much good coffee, so we make it at home. Everything else is just bitter black water. Our favourite place to shop is the Goodwill. We buy most of our clothes from a few places online, but the search for vintage treasure is always fun.
Looking back, what would you tell your 16-year-old self?
Grades don’t matter. Everything is a valuable experience, so take the time to appreciate teaching moments and care for the relationships you have. School will end, and friends will come and go, but how you treat people will never be forgotten.
What is your favourite getaway location? Why?
Palm Springs in winter. The drive down can be rough, but it makes the destination all the sweeter. It’s quiet and warm and we’re in love with the retro mod style. There’s a little restaurant there called Cheeky’s that serves bacon flights with different flavours like marmalade, maple, and jalepeño. That alone is worth going back for.
